It is estimated that domestic abuse will affect 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men over the course of their lifetime. It leads to approximately 2 women being murdered per week and 30 men per year. The immediate dangers of domestic abuse is something that can be helped by many organisations, shelters and services some of which are listed below. The long term impact of domestic abuse can be incredibly damaging to self-esteem, social interaction, sexual and relational behaviours and the capacity for trust and intimacy. It is in these areas that therapy can be extremely beneficial in providing a safe space to explore issues and facilitate healing, as well as providing psychological support throughout the experience.
